2019 WORKSHOPS

International Projects

A. “The Ob/scene journey"

Workshop leaders: Roberto Romei (ITB - Barcellona), Francesco Villano (actor; trainer)

period: 14 – 30 July

Since the origin of theatre, horror, death, the unbearable pain have been banished by the stage. Theatre has been cherishing a respect in regards to extreme pain and the choice of evoking it gradually became a narrative strategy that allowed theatre to deal with what could not be narrated. Since the first messengers of Greek tragedy, theatre chose to translate the horror of death into the acted narration of a “witness”. The workshop starts from Davide Enia’s “Notes on a Shipwreck” and will approach the issues of how to tell, report, act the sea and the need of migration towards unknown territories.

B. “Carpark Romances”

Workshop leaders: Eliot Shrimpton (Guildhall School - London), Charlotte Munksø (DDSKS – Copenaghen)

period: 14 - 30 July

This workshop will explore the themes of love, the erotic, disappointment and loss, exhibitionism and voyeurism, inhibition and extroversion, and the private and public persona. Working with site-specific composition and masks, participants will consider the nature of intimacy and the absurd. In advance or the workshop, participants are asked to:
- find and learn by heart 2 haiku poems by any writer and in any language. The poems should resonate with the themes outlined above and at least one haiku should contain explicitly erotic language.
- bring a disguise. This should include pieces which may be used to disguise both the face and the body.

C. “Tales and the staging of personal stories. From autobiographical interview to universal narration”

Workshop leaders: Maria Grazia Agricola (Teatro Comunità Choros - Turin), Duccio Bellugi Vannuccini (Théâtre du Soleil - Paris)

period: 14 -  30 July

The workshop aims at provoking a powerful narrative move: from an autobiographical tale to a stage story, in search for its metaphorical transposition. Moreover, we will develop the actor’s creative independence, his imagination and his feeling for tragicomical irony. Improvisation, then, will allow the participants to deal with the fundamental laws of theatre: listening, being in the here-and-now, body awareness. All this work will be approached and transformed through the use of Balinese and Commedia dell’Arte masks.

D. “The Story I need to tell. The risk I need to take”

Workshop leader: Raimon Molins (ESAD Escola Superior d'Art Dramàtic - ITBarcelona), Miquel Barcelona Palau (CSD Conservatori Superior de Dansa - IT Barcelona)

period: 14 - 30 July

Our difference builds us, identifies us. The tools and the ability to compose from everything that moves us and challenge us. We will explore how can we develop our consciousness, our point of view through a divised theatre process. Improvisation frames and guidelines for a dramatic extraction material that empowers the creative look and executive capacity as a performer. How can we go from our individual voice to a collaborative one? Which are the stories around us and how can we build an artistic composition with them?

Beginners project

E. "The flower of the actor": workshop for young student-actors and pedagogues.

Workshop leaders: Mauro Pasqualini (Borgobonò Theatre Company; Teatro di Pisa), Claudia Manini (freelance)

period: 14 - 30 July

The workshop is addressed to all that young people that are wondering if they want to apply to a Drama School and ask for an intensive pedagogical experience. The primary dynamics of theatre communication – group work, audience and partner relationships - will be investigated.

New Writing for the Stage.

F. “The Stories I need to write”

Workshop leaders: Donatella Diamanti (cinema and tv scriptwriter,  playwright), Franco Farina (Teatro di Pisa - playwright), Federico Guerri (Teatro di Pisa - playwright, novelist)

period:  14 - 23 July

The workshop will aim at generating, developing and focusing projects of plays for the stage. The stories that you need to write, the stories that you have never thought about, those that you have never completed, will be the heart of this workshop. From the stories that I need to write to those that I need.

Actors-creators-narrators: near and beyond borders.

G. Et verbum caro factum est: body, words, action, unsaid, narration.

Workshop leader: Davide Enia (playwright, novelist, actor, director)

period:  9 - 13 July

The body and its narrative potentialities will be the focus of the workshop. This meeting with actors will not be a “pedagogical transmission of methods or techniques”. The idea is completely different. Leading workshops, for me, means exploring with other people possible routes, leaving the door open to unexpected discoveries. It is an immediate way to talk to each other on a common ground, the attempt to build up a narrative meaning by doing. It is all the pre-season matches.

“Entrepreneurship in Art”

Teachers and participants coming from: DDSKS Copenaghen, GSMD London, ENSATT Lyons, HFMT Hamburg, IP Lisbon, National Academy Vilnius, Teatro di Pisa.
