Accademia dei Filodrammatici - Milano

The Accademia dei Filodrammatici was founded in Milan in 1798 with the aim of promoting freedom and equality through theatre. In 1805 the school for actors was created, one of the oldest drama school all over the world. In the nineteenth century, when the theatre world was still based upon nomadic companies of family tradition, the Accademia regulated the training by extending it also to those young people who were not sons to actor fathers. In 1912 the first biennium was opened focussed on pronunciation and acting. The diploma is still a two-year course and it has retained the principle of providing studies with technical and cultural teaching, but the number of the subjects has been enlarged. The school is private and free of charge. Student are allowed through auditions.
